Pregnancy Decisions | STD Testing

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are very common in the US. A STD usually begins as a sexually transmitted infection (STIs) and you will often hear these terms used interchangeably. STIs are treatable and can be prevented. Being tested is important because many STIs show no symptoms, meaning you could be infected and not know it.

Knowing if you have an STI is especially important for pregnant women as untreated STIs can be harmful for the baby, their partner, and themselves. Also, women considering abortion should first be tested and treated for STIs to remove the threat of greater harm and infection following an abortion procedure.

Finding out you’re pregnant is a good time to be tested for STIs, even if you’ve been tested before. Most STIs can be treated with an antibiotic. Gateway will offer testing and treatment options for the following STDs:

  • Gonorrhea
  • Chlamydia
  • Bacterial Vaginosis
  • Trichomonas
  • HIV
  • Hepatitis B&C
  • Herpes
  • Syphilis
